Nuevvo Webware and JoomlaWorks of K2 fame have just released their new Joomla template club. The club is aimed at providing high quality Joomla templates.
The web is evolving, and Joomla! is evolving with it. Joomla 3 is mobile friendly, bootstrapped and ready for the future. We've already got tags, soon we'll have version control and more is on the horizon. Still, most Joomla! templates are becoming unwieldy monsters. Simple things are hard to do even for advanced users, much because of too complex frameworks and file structures. Nuevvo wants to change that.
After using ChronoComments for a few months, I discovered that the component actually inserted a lot of crappy code in my template. It also made my site fail HTML validation, which really s**ks.
Those things, combined with the fact that ChronoComments hasn't been updated for a year now, urged me to look for an alternative. I just regret not doing it before ;)
RocketTheme has spent two months developing their new Affinity template. And there are a few good reasons for it.
The new Affinity template features a new module reordering ability. The function lets you order blocks vertically and modules horizontally in those blocks. You can reorder modules vertically in a module position. The order of the modules and blocks is remembered by the browser by use of a cookie. This way, the user sees the site the same way every time they visit the page - if they use the same browser, that is.
K2 is a great new GPL extension from JoomlaWorks. It's used for managing content that packs a lot more punch than the traditional Joomla content component can offer.
It provides a flexible article format that allows you to add images, attachments, comments, and even custom fields to your content.
RocketTheme obviously likes the K2 product a lot, as they have decided to implement support for this extension in their own extensions.
There's been a lot of buzz in the Joomla! community about the new Joomla plug-in SuperBlogger from JoomlaWorks.
However, many users have had problems with getting the plugin to work with the SEF component sh404SEF. Now, the problem is located and solutions offered.
SuperBlogger is a new powerful plugin adding blogging functionality to Joomla! 1.5 articles. The plugin integrates popular services like Disqus.com (for comments) and Twitter, along with commonly used blogging tools like tagging, rating, bookmarking and social media sharing.
Add to that MVC template overrides and the ability to process images server-side and you got a real Wordpress contender, if not better in some areas!
