Introducing the New RocketTheme Forum, Built on Kunena

Written by Ryan Pierson

Our forums are an essential part of our site. It allows us to provide detailed support for our members, and gives our community a place to share information. It is an excellent avenue for site developers and casual users alike.

RocketTheme v3.0 came with an abundance of new features, and the forum is among the most important. We have moved from a phpBB based forum to Kunena, which allows us to better integrate our primary Joomla site with our community forum.

In addition to changing the platform on which our forum is built, we have also redesigned the interface to make threads easier to read, create, and add content to.

Presenting an improved forum layout

Written by Johan Janssens

We have been steadily improving our member center over the past few months, by introducing, amongst other things, the “Report a Problem” sections and by extending our support workflows.

Obviously, we can’t just keep piling up all these new buttons and text fields on top of each other. So we figured it was about high time to rethink our forum layout a little bit!

That’s why we are introducing you to our brand new sidebar. To deal with the increasing number of features on our support forums, the right-hand side of each topic post will display all the topic’s metadata.

This metadata consists out of the author’s information, the topic’s creation date and the current state of the support request. Additionally, all the system information that applies to this particular topic has been moved into the sidebar as well.

How to install a Joomla 3 quickstart package

Written by Paulus103

All our newer Joomla templates are available as a Joomla 3+ quickstart package and contain a copy of the JoomlaBamboo template demo site (there are some instances where the quickstart package differes from the demo site)

A Joomla 3+ quickstart package contains the Joomla 3+ content management system files together with the template, extensions and sample demo data.

This article on our knowledgebase describes how to install a Joomlabamboo Joomla 3 quickstart package.

8 resources to be grateful for in 2014

Written by Anthony Olsen

I had originally meant to write this post in December in the spirit of my past efforts at the end of year wrap up. But some where between the intense heat we have been experiencing this summer in Australia and our time consuming redesign this post went awry.

So here is a list of things on the web at the moment that I find are invaluable when it comes to developing our Joomla templates.

Oh my … what would we do without this site. Stack Overflow is a brilliant example of peer researched solutions for obscure code issues. If you have an issue, chances are that someone else has had it before and that the answer is on Stack Overflow. I love the enthusiasm and debate that goes on in some of the threads - entertaining and educational.

How to disable hits in Joomla 3 articles

Written by Anthony Olsen

A common question we get on the forums or ticket system is how to disable specific meta data from the Joomla's article display. Joomla provides a powerful way to show data relevant to your content but because of it's granular nature it's easy to get lost in the settings.

This article on our knowledgebase describes how to disable the hit counter in Joomla sites.

An exclusive coupon for our members for Akeebabackup

Written by Anthony Olsen

Last week we announced the new exclusive deals for our members which can be found on our club members profile page. Yesterday I added a very special coupon for some products that I'm sure you know very well - Akeeba Backup.

Akeeba Backup create quite a number of extensions but there are two that I consider to be must haves for any serious Joomla site - Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools. If you don't know what these extensions do head over to the Akeeba site and take a look. I guarantee you wont be able to live with out them after seeing what they do.

To get access to the coupon code just log into your account and open the panel entitled "Exclusive deals for our members". You will see the long list of coupons that you can use on our favourite Joomla providers including Akeeba Backup, Anything Digital, OS Training, Stack Ideas, Jomsocial and more.

A new download page for our Joomla Templates

Written by Anthony Olsen

Ive just released our new all in one download page which is designed to make it a lot easier to get access to our themes.

The page includes all of the relevant theme downloads as well as the extensions used on the demo sites for the themes.

You can also use the filter at the top of the page to quickly access the downloads for your specific template. Just start typing and the list will be dynamically filtered according to what you type. The search filter actually searches all of the text in each item so you can filter themes based on the framework, extension and more.

8 most common hacks of Joomla sites and how to avoid them

Written by Paulus103

Anthony has spoken before about why he chose Siteground to host the Joomlabamboo website, but during some recent googling I was even more impressed with the choice when I found that SiteGround hosts in excess of 100,000 Joomla sites and even operate their own in house Joomla security team. I was actually googling for something completely unrelated but stopped to check out this video about Joomla site security.

This video provides an indepth look at the 8 most common hacks of Joomla sites seen on sites hosted by Siteground and also (and importantly) how to prevent your site from becoming compromised.

A new way to preview our themes

Written by Anthony Olsen

As a part of our redesign last month. I added a new way to preview our responsive Joomla templates.

The responsive preview button when clicked will load the template's demo site in an iframe and display some icons that allow you to change the size of the demo site.

So you can quickly see how the design changes as the screen size changes.

The neat thing about this is that we lazyloaded the iframe via the use of data attributes so that we weren't loading the demo site on each and every page load and only if the visitor wants to see it.
