Pizza, Bugs, and Fun March 3, 2012
Written by Andrea Tarr
We are announcing a Joomla! Pizza Bugs and Fun event scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2012. The event is global for virtual participants with local venues where ever they are organized. We squashed a lot of bugs last month, but as more people use a new release, we always find more. We'll also have documentation ready to be worked on.
Our goal is to work on coding and testing issues in the CMS Issue Tracker. The coding will obviously require programmers to do, but you don’t need to be able to code to test.
Latin American Joomla: Joomleiro, Juuntos and Jokte
Written by Amy Stephen
I wanted to share a quick post on community initiatives in Latin America. You might have noticed tweets from folks in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and other Latin American countries and wondered what's going on. While some of the discussion has related to difficulties with the Joomla trademark, the more important message is that community is strengthening and more active in that region. That's good to see and deserving of our support.
Starting the Joomla CCK Conversation
Writen by Joss Sanglier
As a result of talking to several people on this site and others and with some help and encouragement from Matthew Schenker from this forum, I have put together a document discussing the issues around adding full content control (or CCK) to the core of Joomla.
I am not technical, so this is not a technical discussion, but rather looks at the entire issue from the point of view of an administrator and client.

Agora 4 beta release due in february
Written by Victor Drover
Today we are excited to announce that work on Agora 4 is nearing competition. It is is slated for a beta release in February and as of this writing is the only bulletin board written natively for Joomla.
Rebuilt from the ground up, Agora 4 will work natively in Joomla 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and beyond.
Agora 4 was designed for simplicity and modularity. That means you’ll be able to easily redesign views such as a post layout using standard Joomla template overrides.

Occassionally in PHP Joomla Extension/Plugin development you need to work out if the current rendered page is inface the default home page. The old way of doing this was to check the Itemid, but later versions of Joomla have a better way.
In order to see if you are on the homepage you can do something like the following snippet of code:
