Leonardo Di Caprio Uses Joomla

Written by Steve Burge

Leonardo Di Caprio is one of the most famous actors in the world.  Leonardo has shown the ability to choose great roles, starring in movies from Inception and Gangs of New York to Titanic and Catch Me if You Can.  It seems he can also choose great software. His new site LeonardoDiCaprio.com runs Joomla. This is a particularly interesting site in its design and its navigation.

Wanted: Mid Sized Business Using Joomla For Case Study

Written by Paul Orwig

We are seeking permission from a mid-sized business that is having a great experience using Joomla to be the subject for a case study that will be published in an upcoming issue of a major web oriented publication. The deadline to send me your suggestions is this Sunday, October 14.  Here are the points that will make an ideal candidate for this case study:

A mid-size business (roughly 100 - 500 employees) - not a university, government, or non-profit website.

Their evaluation process should have considered using Joomla, WordPress, and Drupal, and they chose Joomla.

They should be in production with Joomla long enough (ideally a year or longer) that they are very familiar with it.

The Joomla! Cultural Divide

Written by JeoJoomla

After attending two big Joomla! events this year, Joomla and Beyond in Germany and JoomlaDay Chicago, I discovered significant and conflicting differences between European and American community mindsets. This has gone a long way in helping me understand underlying frustration that exists between the two groups.

I call this the Joomla! cultural divide and it has its roots in the original intent and purpose of the Joomla! project. This has not been clearly understood by many American Joomla! community stakeholders.

As a Canadian I was listening for consensus between the two groups about what the Joomla! project should be doing. It never came.

JB Type is now Joomla 3.0 ready

Written by Anthony Olsen

Our free Joomla typography plugin is now available for Joomla 3.0 and now also comes with built in syntax for the Bootstrap glyph icons. You can download JB Type over at the JB Type plugin page.

Some new icons.

In anticipation of making the move to Bootstrap in the next few months, I have also included some of the bootstrap glyph icons into the array of icons available with the plugin.  Although the new fonts will work out of the box in Joomla 3.0, if you want to use the new icon syntax in Joomla 2.5 or Joomla 1.5 you need to ensure that you have the Bootstrap css and assets loading on the page.

JB Library rewritten and ready for Joomla 3.0

Written by Anthony Olsen

Rewriting our JB Library plugin has been on the cards for a long time and so just in time for the release of Joomla 3.0 - well ok, close to the release of Joomla 3.0 - I'm happy to say that JB Library version 2.0 is now available.

This version is a complete rewrite of the original codebase and contains a number of improvements, enhancements and code optimisation. You may not notice much in the way of new features but this version of the library will play alot better with other extensions and work more efficiently when it comes to controlling jQuery and mootools on your site.

JFlickr now available for Joomla 3.0

Written by Anthony Olsen

Hot on the heels of the JB Maps Joomla 3.0 release I now present the Joomla 3.0 version of jFlickr.  JFlickr is a free jQuery driven Flickr module that easily adds images from flickr to your Joomla website.

Here is an example ...

Some of my favourite photos taken from my very own Canon 7d.

No Need for JB Library or the framework ...

Please note that as of Joomla 3.0 JB Library or the framework is no longer a requirement for this module. So you should be able to happily install this module and Joomla 3.0 will take care of the rest.

Zentools for Joomla 3.0 is (almost) ready

Written by Anthony Olsen

I've just uploaded an updated version of our Zentools module which fixes an issue with K2 2.6. Perhaps more importantly though it also able to be installed on Joomla 3.0. Members can download the package from the Zentools download page.

Combined packages for Joomla 2.5 / Joomla 3.0 ...

Zentools is now available in two different packages. New code in the Joomla 3.0 installer makes it challenging to create a combined Joomla 1.5, Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.0 installer and so rather than waste valuable development time on working around that we decided to combine the Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3 series packages and section off the Joomla 1.5 package.

Things to love about Joomla 3.0 - Part One

Written by Anthony Olsen

The more I dig into Joomla 3.0 the more I love this new version of Joomla.   Rather than compiling all of these things into a single ten things about Joomla 3.0 type post, I'm going to start a new series of microblogs around Joomla 3.0. It's easy enough to read the specs on the Joomla 3.0 landing page, but how do these new features bear out when you are actually using them?

Using Joomla 3.0 in the real world.

I've just spent the last hour or so preparing the sample data that we use for our Joomla templates and in that time I've found a new appreciation for the work that the Joomla 3 UX team have put into revamping our much loved CMS.  While I think that, in general, there could be a little more visual hierarchy employed in the interface - I'm sure that will come as the 3 series develops - there are some things that are simply 1000% better than the preceeding versions of Joomla.

K2 v2.6.0 for Joomla! 1.5, 2.5 & 3.0 now available!

Written by Fotis Evangelou

You are hereBlog K2 v2.6.0 for Joomla! 1.5, 2.5 & 3.0 now available! K2 v2.6.0 for Joomla! 1.5, 2.5 & 3.0 now available! 06 October 2012, 03:38 by Fotis Evangelou      12 comments  K2 v2.6.0 for Joomla! 1.5, 2.5 & 3.0 now available!

If we could sum up the highlights of this release, full compatibility with Joomla! 3.0 is certainly highlight no.1! Features like responsive layout, drag and drop on lists or the new combined view of the component's parameters in the backend are now standard with K2.  Thanks to our Community members, we also managed to track down and fix over a dozen bugs which you can browse over at our SVN changelog.  jQuery & jQueryUI have been updated to their latest releases and in Joomla! 3.0 we make sure tha the jQuery library only is not loaded as jQuery is now the main JavaScript library to power the newest Joomla! version (and future ones).

K2 v2.6.1 now available

Written by Fotis Evangelou

We've just issued version 2.6.1 of K2 which fixes a few minor bugs reported from our users in all Joomla! versions supported by K2.

These bugs are either "notices" popping up in various places in the backend or style related glitches. So far we've sorted what's been reported, but hey, Joomla! released 3.0.1 just yesterday so don't be surprise for a 2.6.2 in the weeks to come.

If you are on Joomla! 1.5, grab the zip file from the link above and install it on top of your existing K2 version. If you are on Joomla! 2.5 or 3.0, go to the Joomla! update manager, purge the update cache, re-check and you'll see the new release available to instantly update. If you are on Joomla! 1.6 or 1.7 then someone probably cut off your internet connection a year ago: upgrade to 2.5 now!!
