Pizza, Bugs, and Fun is Today - Friday, July 12th, 2013

Written by Nick Savov

You're invited.

Tomorrow (Friday, July 12th) is the gobal Pizza, Bugs, and Fun event. It's an all-day, in every time zone, global event that's open to all virtual participants that are interested. There will also be local venues wherever they are organized, as well as a virtual training session today at 15:00 UTC. The key goal is to fix as many Joomla 3 and Joomla 2.5 bugs as possible. Read on for more information.

Join us!

This Bug Squash event is a great opportunity for intermediate to advanced users to learn how to contribute to Joomla bug fixes within the community. You do not have to be an expert coder or even a coder to contribute; all we ask is that you are familiar with running Joomla on your localhost before the event and that you consider yourself at least an intermediate user. We will provide you with the help and documentation that you need to test the Joomla patches (i.e. fixes), so please join us today and help us to make Joomla better!  Best of all is that the event is a lot of fun and you get to hang out with a lot of cool and friendly Joomla people! It really is a great experience that leaves a lasting memory.

RocketTheme Mid-Year 2013 Status Update

Written by Andy Miller

Back in January we reflected in our blog on 2012 and looked forward to what you could expect to see from RocketTheme in 2013. Now that six months have passed I thought it would be great to see what we've achieved and what we have coming in the second half of the year.

Reviewing the First Half of 2013

As promised, we have gone back and created responsive versions of all 12 of our 2012 Joomla templates for both Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.x. We've also continued to improve and update our existing templates with numerous bug-fixing updates. That's 24 template updates alone since the start of the new year to be exact. We've also continued to expand and improve our Template Compatibility Matrix, so please make sure you reference this when looking at template availability and compatibility.

Hi, we are Joomlatools. Nice meeting you again.

Written by Johan Janssens

It’s a fact of life – things change, and our website is no exception. In case you haven’t noticed, we gave our Joomlatools website a fresh lick of paint and added some great improvements to our member center!

FILEman and LOGman extensions are nearing their 1.0 stable releases and to celebrate this we have given them their own spot on the homepage, next to our DOCman extension.  The Extensions page got a little re-organisation. You can discover all our available extensions and get an overview of the supported features per extensions. Curious what new features we are adding? Check back from time to time or sign-up for our newsletter.

In the top menu you can now find all Frequently Asked Questions and the Changelog information for each extension under the tabs of their respective page on our website.  With the first release candidate of DOCman 2.0 around the corner, we archived the information related to DOCman 1.5. If you are looking for information on this version, browse to the DOCman extension page and click on the Archive tab!

Are you using Joomla 2.5 or Joomla 3?

Written by Anthony Olsen

Each month I run a check through our download statistics to see which version of our joomla templates is getting downloaded the most. Interestingly our Joomla3 downloads have been consistently more popular than the Joomla 2.5 versions of the same themes. In fact Joomla 3 versions of our templates have been anywhere from 10% to 45% more popular than their Joomla 2.5 counterparts.  The Joomla 3 version of the Motion template (at the time of writing) was 45% more popular than the Joomla 2.5 version.

Because our templates are combined J2.5 and J3 packages this is based solely on the number of downloads for the quickstart packages rather than the template's themselves, but I think it's still a good reflection of sentiment from our users. It also means that these downlaods relate to folks who are starting a new project rather than installing the template on an existing Joomla installation.

Written by by Fotis Evangelou

Today we're releasing K2 version 2.6.7, a maintenance update which adds minor improvements to anti-spam security and frontend ACL, while resolving the first ever VEL report for K2. For the impatient, grab the update here: http://getk2.googlecode.com/files/K2_v2.6.7.zip  If you are on Joomla! 1.5, grab the zip file from the link above and install it on top of your existing K2 version. If you are on Joomla! 2.5 or 3.x, go to the Joomla! update manager, purge the update cache, re-check and you'll see the new release available to instantly update.

If you are on Joomla! 1.6 or 1.7 then World War Z has already happened. Just kidding, but make sure you upgrade to Joomla! 2.5 or 3.x now!  So what's changed or been updated in this new release in more detail?
