Microsoft has just released a Windows Web App for Joomla.
This means that it will be even easier to install Joomla on shared servers using Microsoft Web Platform technology.
The Microsoft Web Platform Installer is an installer designed to help get users of the Windows operating system up and running with some popular web applications.
This type of web app has been available for Drupal, Wordpress and other platforms for a while. Finally, you are also able to use the Joomla Windows Web App.
There's no problem running PHP on Windows. Joomla runs smoothly on Microsoft.
The Microsoft Web Platform Installer 2.0 (Web PI) is a free tool that makes getting the latest components of the Microsoft Web Platform, including Internet Information Services (IIS), SQL Server Express, .NET Framework and Visual Web Developer easy. The Web PI also makes it easy to install and run the most popular free web applications for blogging, content management and more with the built-in Windows Web Application Gallery.
Microsoft writes about the Web App Gallery:
The Windows Web App Gallery provides simple streamline ways for users to explore, discover, install and deploy web applications on the Windows Platform.
The web hosting company ISP Huset said this when asked what the Web App will mean for them:
Most of all, this means that customers who don't know the inner workings of Linux can use Joomla easily. The threshold is thus lowered for the novice Joomla user.
The addition of Joomla to the Microsoft Web Platform Installer will also make it much easier for Microsoft users to test and use Joomla.
The Joomla Windows Web App is free and can be downloaded here.
